The SPAB Briefing

A while ago we were asked by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) to design a new supplement to go with The SPAB magazine. What we came up with is The SPAB Briefing. It is smaller than the A4 magazine (it’s 189mm x 267m) so it sits neatly under the masthead of the magazine […]

The Victorian: Tower Bridge

The latest issue of The Victorian (Issue 48) has gone to print. This is the opening spread of the article about the depiction of Tower Bridge in art to coincide with the exhibition at the Guildhall Art Gallery entitled ‘Tower Bridge: A Celebration of 120 Years, 1894–2014’.

The Horticulturist redesign

The first issue of the redesigned Horticulturist magazine has arrived back from the printers and so far the feedback from the Chartered Institute of Horticulture has been extremely positive, which makes the hard work and long hours all worthwhile.

The Victorian redesign

The Victorian magazine has a new Editor and following that change we were asked to redesign the magazine. The first issue with this new design has now been printed and published and here are a few samples spreads from it.

The Victorian

I’ve posted about my work for The Victorian magazine before but because it is an ongoing job which I have been doing for years I sometimes take it for granted and forget how much I enjoy working on it. The clients are nice and very supportive of my design work and we all invariably think […]

The Horticulturist

Recently, I have been lucky enough to become the designer of another magazine, The Horticulturist, which is the quarterly magazine of the Institute of Horticulture. The magazine is a widely acclaimed journal which includes technical and professional articles, book reviews, forthcoming events, Institute news and a round-up of horticultural science worldwide. It goes out free to all […]

On the right track

The latest issue of The Victorian magazine – issue 39 – is at the printers and will be out soon. This issue is in fact the twentieth issue Made In Earnest has designed and, even if I say so myself, it is looking good.

The modernist shop

I am proud and honoured to stay I have a selection of The Jazz Meet posters on sale at the moment at a pop-up shop in Manchester. The Manchester Modernist Society, publishers of the modernist magazine, have launched a modernist pop-up shop at 142 Chapel Street, Salford M3 6AF (close to Salford central Station and the Kings […]

Historic House design tweaks

I’ve been the designer of Historic House magazine for the Historic House Association since 2002 and during those years the magazine has been gradually tweaked and amended and hopefully improved. The latest design alterations came about in time for the Spring 2011 issue and have been received favourably. The Summer 2011 issue is in production […]

The Victorian magazine

As I have mentioned before I design The Victorian magazine for The Victorian Society and have been doing so since 2005. The magazine is published three times a year and is sent to all members of the Society free of charge. Each issue of the magazine concerns a specific relevant topic, this one pictured was concerned […]
